OUR STORY

Mian Mohammed Yusaf was a man who unlike his brothers never settled for a cozy job in the Pakistan Railways. Instead, he followed his entrepreneurial spirit and opened a small fabric store at Delhi Gate inside the beautiful Walled City of Lahore.

Those were the days when Pakistan had not yet been born and cloth merchants mainly travelled the length of India in search of fine cloth. It was World War II that made imported cloth rare and those who traded it (mainly Hindus) guarded their monopoly quite carefully. The Hindu cloth merchants had come together to form a very powerful association which received its quota of imported cloth directly from the British administration, leaving the Muslim merchants high and dry.

Mr. M. Yusaf who understood the Hindu monopoly quite well came up with a stratagem to end the exploitation. He brought together the handful of Muslim cloth merchants of Lahore and inspired them to form their own association – “The Muslim Cloth Merchant Association”. An association which fought for its legitimate right of trading in imported cloth with the British and eventually won!

Hence, both the Hindus and Muslims were awarded equal quotas. Since the later were far less than the former, this resulted in a far greater allocation of cloth for the Muslims; an advantage they used to the maximum effect. With time the business grew and after formation of Pakistan, Mr. M. Yusaf brought his business into the newly formed Azam Cloth Market Lahore. His eldest son, Mr. M. Asif also joined him and helped him in running their shops in the infamous Nawab Bazar and Punjab Block.

Always believing in the power of cooperation M. Yusaf M. Asif Wholesale Cloth Merchants managed to become distributor of Pakistani textile manufacturers such as Harnai Woolen Mills, Bannu Woolen Mills, Lawrencepur and Noble Fabrics. Today, both the souls of M. Yusaf and M. Asif have departed yet their name with tremendous goodwill is still alive. The business has carried forward to the youngest son of M. Yusaf, Mr. Mian M. Arif, who has been successfully managing and operating it for more than 30 years.

Patience, perseverance and strict adherence to our principle, value, culture and tradition has got us this far, and we hope that the story shall go on…
